Allpress Studio: Dream Catchers by Sophie Walton

Sophie Walton is a self-taught painter based in Tāmaki Makaurau. She is currently enrolled at the Browne School of Art in the Visual Arts Mentoring Programme.

DREAM CATCHERS explores notions of memory through the lens of love. The aim of these works is to elicit one’s own memories in such a way that it slides across the boundary of daydream. The paintings are made with visible layers of soft, simple shapes that form chaotic compositions. The combination of a riotous acrylic palette and thousands of individually placed rhinestones emphasize light. These paintings are playful: the ghostly figures float amongst cartoonish flowers, while the outlines of hands and eyes reach upwards and outwards.
